it’s okay if you don’t like me

It’s *Think it Thursday* and it’s okay if you don’t like me –

My son didn’t want to go to school.

He was mad at me when I said that no fever means… he’s going to school.
He begged, and he pleaded. He tried to make me feel guilty.

I started to feel annoyed.
But I knew that the only reason I was feeling annoyed – was because of what I was thinking.

I was thinking that he shouldn’t beg and plead. I was thinking that it “shouldn’t be this hard.”
I was wanting him to like me and approve of my parenting (funny when I say it out loud, right?!)
I was arguing with reality.

Of course he would beg and plead – he’s 13 and he wants his way.
Of course parenting isn’t easy.

And of course, sometimes he just won’t like me. And maybe that’s okay.

I told him that I love him, and he’s going to school, and it’s okay if he doesn’t like me.
I will love him anyway.

Have a great day – one thought at a time!

your creator won’t

Hey Single Mamas! It’s a very special *Friday Love Note* – because you deserve it.

Your creator will never give up on you.

Never. Ever.

Do you believe that?

I do – wholeheartedly.

This simple and powerful truth is among the most powerful beliefs I have.

We all want a someone behind us, cheering us on, believing in us, seeing what we can’t see in ourselves.

Your creator is behind (and beside you), cheering you on.

He believes in you. He sees it.

Maybe you can see it to. Seek and ye shall find.

You’re amazing and I hope you believe it.

Have an amazing weekend – you deserve it!

don’t blink

It’s *Think it Thursday* and don’t blink –

My friend Sarah is getting ready to send her triplets off to college soon. They have just 1 more year at home and then… they are off!

She’s feeling that pull to make the most of every day and every moment. And not just make the most of it, but to REALLY enjoy it.

I was telling her that I’m doing the same. I don’t always get to have my kids on holidays or at every important moment and it reminds me that when I do have them, I really want to appreciate it.

Even when my daughter is pulling at me…

Or my son wants to lay by me in bed when I’m exhausted…

Or when my teenager needs extra help with an audition (and I think the dishes need to be done instead…)

Being a mom is a lot of work, and I’m so glad I got the job.

I’m going to try to enjoy every moment.

Have a great day, one thought at a time!

World’s Okayest Mom

It’s your special *Think it Thursday* and Happy Mother’s Day Week!

(And I’ve got something awesome at the end of this email for you too…)

But first, this.

My neighbor has the best bumper sticker that says, “World’s okayest mom,” and I love it.

It’s like she’s giving herself permission to be human and still feel awesome at the same time.

It makes me laugh because I can totally relate.

I’m not the best and I’m not the worst. I’m totally okay with being okay. I love my kids and some days, that’s about all I’ve got. I make a sincere effort and yet I never execute things perfectly.

Yesterday my client Jill and I talked about the fact that her being the “perfect” mom for her kids is not ideal. It’s not best for them.

It’s not really supposed to be that way.

The best thing for her kids – is for her to be her (with all her flaws and weaknesses.)

That’s what they are supposed to have, and that’s what they’ve got.

You’re amazing Mama.

Please don’t let your flaws take away from your awesomeness. They can’t (unless you let them).
